Corsin Battaglia has been at Empa since 2014. He currently leads the Materials for Energy Conversion Laboratory and teaches in the Departments of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering and of Materials Science at ETH Zurich. Corsin Battaglia's research investigates novel materials and concepts for sustainable energy storage with a focus on next-generation batteries and on synthetic fuels. He published an impressive number of research papers, is co-inventor on multiple patent applications, has won several awards, and is active in a number of national and European committees and associations on battery research.

Dorina Opris joined Empa's Laboratory for Functional Polymers in 2006. She is head of the Functional Polymeric Materials research group (since 2014) and a Lecturer in the Department of Materials Science at ETH Zurich. Dorina Opris conducts research on the synthesis, characterization, processing, and application of stimuli-responsive dielectric elastomers. Her excellent reputation is demonstrated by the invitations she receives to scientific conferences throughout the world, the ERC Consolidator Grant, which was awarded to her in 2020, and her peer reviewing activities for reputable publishers.
